Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the new guard

Does the legendary Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation even need an introduction? This revered appellation resonates with wine lovers worldwide, regardless of age. A rare feat in a world of constant evolution, a world often too fast-paced, always on the lookout for the latest trend. While Châteauneuf is a firmly established appellation, it is by no means static! And we intend to prove it to you with these three estates, which, without abandoning their centuries-old terroir, are exploring uncharted paths towards more approachable, refined wines, whose cultivation methods are perfectly aligned with the major challenges ahead.
ELODIE JAUME
In 2017, Elodie took over the family vineyards: 3 hectares in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and 2 hectares in a "simple" Côtes-du-Rhône, but very well situated on the edge of the appellation. A human-scale estate that she immediately converted to biodynamic farming under the Demeter label. She quickly made a name for herself with her single cuvée, "A en Perdre le Souffre" (To Lose One's Souffler), a luscious and juicy wine, far removed from the local standards that can quickly tire the palate. But that's not all, because... Drumroll please ... We are thrilled to welcome her first vintage of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, a quintessence of old and majestic Grenache vines, giving birth to a wine of incredible elegance, which should quickly rise to the ranks of the appellation's essential great wines. The only drawback? There are very few!
MAS SAINT-LOUIS
“This wine is likely to become a cult classic quite quickly . Let’s enjoy it while we can,” is how critic Michel Bettane envisions the future of what was once a sleeping beauty. The Geniest family has owned this 30-hectare estate in a single block since 1890. However, it was only in 2011, with the arrival of Matthieu Faurie-Grepon at the helm, that he was able to reveal the full elegance of this sandy terroir. This was achieved in particular through varietal vinification, isolating specific plots, and judicious aging, favoring concrete tanks and large containers such as foudres and demi-muids. The wines are characterized by incredibly fresh , delicate, and silky tannins, and Pinot Noir aromas of rose, peony, and Morello cherry that are reminiscent of the most legendary estates in Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
