Domaine de Cassiopée, Burgundy today

Based in the Maranges appellation, south of the Côte de Beaune, Hugo and Thalloulah Mathurin started with the 2020 vintage. We have followed them since their beginnings and we can only applaud the progress they have made.

Well-trained, they built impressive CVs before striking out on their own. Hugo worked for Jean-Marc Roulot and Frédéric Mugnier before becoming the technical director of the Beaune wine school. Meanwhile, Talloulah gained experience at Clos de Tart, Benjamin Leroux, and with Marie-Thérèse Chappaz in Switzerland.

Settling in this region is no easy feat, given the price of vineyard land. But a wonderful opportunity arose in this little corner of Burgundy , somewhat more isolated, unspoiled, and above all, cooler—a considerable advantage for continuing to produce sparkling wines in a region that is warming up and where wines are sometimes becoming a little too powerful.

Elegance and energy are the words that first come to mind when describing the wines offered here. A discreet estate that is comfortably establishing itself as a must-visit destination in Burgundy today.
