(R)Evolution for Pierre Gerbais Champagnes

Located in the southern Champagne region , in the small Aube village of Celles-sur-Ource, Domaine Pierre Gerbais is one of the most reliable producers in the Côte des Bars. The new generation is now embodied by Aurélien Gerbais. Like many great winemakers, Aurélien studied at the renowned "Viti" school in Beaune, then honed his skills in New Zealand and at Domaine Hubert Lamy in Burgundy before returning permanently to the estate in 2011 with a clear vision of viticulture and ambitious goals to elevate the estate to the elite of Champagne. 

Prioritizing substance over style, this young man in his thirties has patiently ensured the estate's continuity by practicing organic farming and developing a Burgundian interpretation of winemaking techniques tailored to each plot, aiming to better express the diverse terroirs that comprise the estate. Aurélien's Burgundian vision of Champagne stems in part from the geological proximity of these two regions. Indeed, the terroirs of the Côte des Bars share a direct connection with the Kimmeridgian limestone soils found in Chablis . Finally, and although our era may make us forget it, Champagne is a wine that expresses its full nobility with age. This is why all the single-plot wines have been aged in perpetual reserve since 2010. This technique involves blending younger vintages with older ones in the same container (in this case, stainless steel tanks). In this way, the older and younger wines complement each other, bringing complexity, intensity, and depth.

With its 18 hectares, the estate has the distinction of cultivating (in addition to the traditional Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier) Pinot Blanc , a grape variety that has almost disappeared from Champagne and whose freshness and finesse appear particularly relevant at a time when climate issues are considerable. 

Today we have the privilege of offering you the new releases of the single-vineyard wines from Domaine Pierre Gerbais. As you will have gathered, these wines are the result of years of patience, reflection, and (an old-fashioned word) hard work.  This (r)evolution marks a turning point for the estate, which is gradually establishing itself among the best winegrowers of Champagne.
