Christian Rouchier naturally cultivates discretion. While appearing introverted at first glance, this genuine modesty conceals a sincere man, constantly questioning himself in the face of his environment. Well aware of humanity's insignificance in the face of nature, he educates himself, experiments, and humbly progresses on the path to authenticity.

In the 2000s, he inherited a small plot of vines from his father, but the grapes were sold to a local wine merchant. Nevertheless, he began making a little wine, which increasingly appealed to a few local customers. From the outset, he took great care of his vines, embracing organic farming practices . Gradually, he professionalized his operation and became a full-time winemaker.

With just 2.7 hectares located in the terroirs of the village of Saint-Jean de Muzols, south of the Saint-Joseph appellation, Christian crafts Syrahs that defy trends, using whole-cluster fermentation. These are full-bodied wines with aromas of spice, tobacco, incense, and graphite. The 2021 vintage, which has just been bottled, will be his largest in terms of volume: 15,000 bottles . A drop in the ocean, or rather, a drop of wine, in the vast world of wine.

Despite the tireless work done to unearth top-tier winemakers, Domaine Rouchier is the kind of discovery one makes only once or twice a year, per region, at best. Though its wines remain relatively unknown , they grace the most prestigious tables and the most discerning cellars.
